The tablet features a 7-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls as well as a SD card slot.

Thanks to its Tegra 2 chip, 1080p video playback is apparently super smooth on the device, and it comes with a HDMI port that allows you to hook it up to a television. Powering each device will be an ARM Cortex-A8 based processor. Since it is poweful enough to run Flash, streaming full HD should be possible.

The TV set comes with Android 1.5 and can be upgraded. Some Google apps like YouTube, Google Maps, Weather, Time, Calendar, and Browser will be included, but not the official app store, since Lava will run its own.

Lava takes this step, because Google does not (yet) support apps for such big displays. Lava says the open source community will provide the apps along with partners like Facebook and Twitter.

No release date so far--Lava does not say whether the TV is already available or not. At least they offer a list of retailers around Europe.

Here are some specs:

42" / 47" / 55" Android TV

Full-HD 1920x1080 pixels

Backlight LED

PAL/SECAM, DVB-T MPEG4 HD with Common Interface

PC RGB

CVBS

S-Video

Component

3 HDMI

2 Scart (DP Connector included)

USB slot

Processor: SOPC100 (Cortex A8) 833MHz

Wireless keyboard

Video-formats: MPEG4, H.264 HD (720p), 3GP

Audio-formats: MPEG-1 layers 1,2 and 3(MP3)

Built-in ethernet connection, 100BASE-T, RJ45 connector

Optional wireless USB dongle

Check out the official video in our video section.

<div style="height: 20px; With Google Chrome and Android operating system built in, you can access all of your favorite websites and easily move between television and the web. This opens up your TV from a few hundred channels to millions of channels of entertainment across TV and the web.

And why will it take over? Because Google TV is built on open platforms and is therefore open for developers. And because Google teamed up with Sony, Logitech and Intel. Intel provides the necessary computing power in order to run Android and Chrome browser, while Sony puts Google TV inside TV sets and Blueray player. Logitech has already announced a set-top box.

Check out the official Google TV video in our video section.

[via Google Blog]

<fb:like>

India's $35 tablet running on Android?

http://www.everything-android.net/1/post/2010/07/indias-35-tablet-running-on-android.html

http://www.everything-android.net/1/post/2010/07/indias-35-tablet-running-on-android.html#comments

Uncategorized

It was all over the news lately: India has unveiled the prototype of a linux-based $35 basic touchscreen tablet aimed at students, which it hopes to bring into production by 2011.
